The Thomas Hickman Charity community comprises 40 Almshouse residents, either couples or individuals. These are commonly retired, older people.  Several of the residents have celebrated their 100th birthdays.  The Almshouses are at various addresses in the centre of Aylesbury and include 1-bedroomed bungalows, 2-3 bedroomed houses and flats.

The residents live independently, with assistance provided by a pastoral care officer.

The focal point for the resident’s community is the ‘Sitting Room’, a common room for functions. This is provided with kitchenette, television and computer.  The residents organise their own social events, which include regular coffee mornings, arm chair exercises, films and bingo nights, as well as occasional trips outside Aylesbury.  There are also regular visits from a masseuse, a foot care professional and a hairdresser. The residents produce a monthly Newsletter to keep in touch.

Above the Sitting Room is the visitors flat which is available to accommodate family or friends of any of the residents for a short visit.

The 300th anniversary of the founding of Thomas Hickman Charity was celebrated by a service in St Mary’s Church and a garden party in 1998.

The fantastic gardens at Green End House can be visited annually during the ‘Open Gardens’ event.
